Ban Dog: A term used a long time ago for Bulldogs and Mastiffs.
Bat Ears :Ears erected and rounded at the top.
Butterfly Nose:A type of "dudley nose" in which there are spots of pigment on the nose.
Buckskin: A light fawn coloration.
Breaking Stick: A wedged-shaped stick used to "break up" the hold of a Pit Bull.
Catchweight: A heavywieght, any dog over 52 pounds pit wieght.
Catchdog:A dog that is used to hunt, trap, and catch wild boar.
Chain weight:The regular weight of a dog kept on the yard.
Chocolate nose: A dog can be the color chocolate with a red nose, but it is different when the nose is chocolate. A chocolate nosed dog is a throw dack from usually his fifth or even sixth generation.
Cur:Any dog, that is not game, that shows sign and or dose give up or stops. Squaks and has tail between its legs. Some may rare up and soon curr out.
Curr out: To quit and or give up.
Dudley nose: A flesh-colored nose (NOT THE SAME AS RED-NOSE)
Full drop ears: Ears that hang way down.
Game test: To test the depth of a dogs gameness, tireing the dog then allowing him to prove his gameness by scratching into another.
Keep: A special keep up of a dog, preperation for a match. Many keeps consist of many things, some may vary. Diet, workout, confinment, etc.
Natrual Ears:Un-cropped ears.
Old Family: A family of pit dogs that were brought from Irland in the later half centery. Strands that were found: Colby, Lighter, Feeley, Corvino etc.
Old Family Reds: A segiment of the Old Family that when kept pure, were either red, white or red/white.
Old Family red Nose: A line that if kept pure showed a red or copper colored nose.
Pied: White and tan patches.
Pit weight:(Match Weight)When a dog is brought down from his usuall weight and is ready to match.
Red nose: A red or copper colored nose dog.
Roll:(schooling)A practice or training match.
Scratch: A method by which a dog must demonstrate his gameness, willingness, and eagerness in a contest.
Scratchline: A line drawn diagonally across the corner of the pit of which the dog to scratch must not be placed before being released.
Staffordshire Terrier: The English show version of the Pit Bull
Spring Pole: A device used for exercizing a Pit Bull.
Treadmill: A device for running a dog in place, used by breeders of all breds
Turn: A pit term tht refers to a dog turning his head and shoulders away from his opponent. Various rules are set foe this, because it can be mistaken for a manuver or tactic of another dog.
Turn-table A device used to run a dog in place.
